Why Shyliene's Milk & Honey? People often ask me, "Why Shyliene's Milk & Honey?"
Shyliene is my daughter.
When I was very young, I became pregnant and went into labor far too early. Although she was born, she did not survive. Her name was Shyliene, a name that came to my heart long before I ever held her.
The years that followed were some of the hardest of my life. For nearly five years, I battled grief, anger, confusion, and loss. I struggled with life, with myself, and even with God. The medical complications that followed only added to those challenges.
During that season, my mother and I attempted to start a small home baking business called "Shyliene's Sweet Shack" to help offset medical expenses. Looking back, it was never truly a business. It was more of a labor of love and survival. While it didn't succeed, I can now see that it simply wasn't God's timing.
As the years passed, God began working on my heart. I eventually grew tired of fighting. Through Jesus Christ and the truth of God's Word, I found healing, peace, and purpose. I found hope in His promises and the assurance that one day I will see my daughter again.
When I think of "Milk & Honey," I think of the abundant life God promises. I think of the place where He leads His people, a place of provision, blessing, and hope. For me, Milk & Honey is a reminder that God is faithful and that His promises are true.
In this season of life, God has blessed me with a love for baking. What began as a simple joy in my kitchen has grown into something much deeper. As I prayed about how I could serve others more faithfully, one name kept returning to my heart:
Shyliene's Milk & Honey.
Along with that name came a verse that continues to guide this journey:
"As each one of us has received a gift, Minister it to one another, As good stewards of the manifold grace of God."
1 Peter 4:10
I believe God has given each of us gifts to be used for His glory. Baking is one of the gifts He has entrusted to me, and I want to use it to bless others.
For many years, the kitchen has been the heart of my home. Growing up, it was always the gathering place. I remember my dad making breakfast, my mom baking late into the night, and the warmth that filled our home through the simple act of sharing food. Those memories shaped me. The smells, the sounds, and the joyful bustle of a busy kitchen still bring comfort to my heart. After more than twenty years cooking in my own kitchen, I discovered a special passion for baking and the joy it brings when people gather around something made with care and love.
Today, I serve through my local church and with Kingdom Builders Urban Outreach, helping provide meals to those in need. Some are experiencing homelessness. Some are simply struggling to make ends meet. Some are just hungry. Through these experiences, God placed a deeper calling on my heart.
My vision for Shyliene's Milk & Honey is about more than selling baked goods. It is about creating a tool for outreach. It is about using the proceeds to bless others, support my community, and extend God's love in practical ways.
Every loaf, cookie, cake, and pastry is made with gratitude for the blessings God has given me, appreciation for a husband who has supported this dream, and thankfulness for a mother who taught me the value of homemade food and serving others.
Shyliene's Milk & Honey exists because of a story of loss that God transformed into a story of purpose. It is a reminder that even in our deepest pain, God can bring beauty, healing, and hope.
Thank you for supporting this dream, this ministry, and this mission.
With love and gratitude,
Shyliene's Milk & Honey Cottage Bakery ❤️
